Meiners Oaks Flood Protection

Flood protection for the community of Meiners Oaks currently depends on a non-engineered berm that extends along the east bank of Ventura River from the Robles Diversion Facility to approximately 4,200 feet downstream.

This berm provides limited flood protection to rural residential properties in low-lying areas of the floodplain. It is not expected to withstand a 100-year flood and does not meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements.

Intermediate design plans for a more conventional levee are currently on hold pending the selection of a preferred alternative for the Robles Diversion Modifications. Once that path is identified, integrated design plans for improved flood protection will be developed to meet federal safety requirements and to provide sufficient flood protection following dam removal.
